Description
"Mankind clearly peaked about 40 years ago. It's been downhill ever since. For all this talk of our dazzling modern age, the two biggest advances of the past decade are Wi-Fi and Nando's. That's the best we can do."
In his latest laugh-out-loud collection of misanthropic scribblings, hideous Q-list celebrity failure Charlie Brooker tackles everything from the misery of nightclubs to the death of Michael Jackson, making room for Sir Alan Sugar, potato crisps, global financial meltdown, conspiracy theories and Hole in the Wall along the way. The collapse of civilisation has never felt this funny (unless you're a sociopath, in which case it's been an uninterrupted laugh riot since the days of the Somme).
This book is guaranteed to brighten your life, put a spring in your step, and lie to you on its back cover.

- "Dear Mr Brooker..."
I am unfortunately half way through it already. Unfortunate, as I don't want it to end. We are the same age so I relate to many references and must admit a wicked but joyful concurrence with the modern-day grumbles & terrors, so eloquently depicted & dissected (& usually infact solved!) therein. This is indeed a fan-letter... the one & only I've ever undertaken; but I shall not be ashamed! Charlie Brooker's writing keeps me fricking sane. Laughing to tears along to a book is not a sensation I'm too familliar with, and it's a real treat; especially warming, knowing I, with my often perplexed squint at this freaky, brilliant world, am not alone! I can only urge him to write a full, erm; 'proper' book...that is to say a stream of his wise & screwy consciousness into which we can all dip the weary toes of our minds. Just ordered Dawn Of The Dumb, to allay any withdrawal symptoms so it'd better be as damn good! 'Newswipe' is the most important thing to burn our screens lately btw. THANKS Mr.B
